Gameplay
In cat planet, the player controls an angel girl and collects cats by running into them.
Every cat has a piece of dialogue, revealed when you collect it.
The goal of the game is to explore and collect cats until you reach the final cat, wearing a golden crown. Although the game does not reward you for it, you can optionally collect all 67 cats.
You can jump in the air infinitely, and you can control the height of the jump using up/down arrow keys.
The angel's movement physics are frictionless; it never slows down on its own. It bounces away from surfaces, with a different restitution ratio based on the axis (0.75 horizontal, 0.5 vertical).
The world of cat planet is divided into screen-sized rooms, seamlessly connected as one big world.
There are 5 areas: cat village, deep jungle, factory, lava caves and the final area, “crows”.
Technical details
The game was developed using some variant of GameMaker v1.4.
The game does not use streamed audio. It instead uses PxTone for its music, which is sequenced in real time from .pttune files. It appears that the game uses PxTone V5, glancing at the file headers (including a 2007 timestamp!).
Levels are designed at 480×368 pixel dimensions (30×23 grid of 16px tiles), but the actual gameplay screen is 480×360, causing the lower half of the last row's tiles to be cut off.
